I've been trying to find a Registry repair tool I can download that is actually free and actually will repair any registry errors.

Microsoft Edge is a core component of Windows 10, not a separate app. If the error is caused by file corruption or something similar, Windows’ System File Checker tool (sfc.exe) might be able to fix the problem. Uninstall Microsoft edge Completly windows 10 Easy method: First download a tool: Download Edge browser tool Extract zip files on the desktop. Right-Click on “Uninstall Edge.cmd” file and Run as Administrator; Let the tool do its work. At last, reboot your windows. Remove Microsft Edge from windows 10 with Powershell. Open the PowerShell.

See below.

My system has been running slow with a lot of lockups.

Registry errors are not the reason. There are lots of possible
reasons, but the most likely reason these days is malware infection.

My antivirus isn't finding anything

What anti-virus is it? They are not equally good, and unfortunately
the most popular ones are among the worst.

Also, a virus is only one kind of malware. What anti-spyware programs
do you run?

Do you keep all the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs up to date?

and the lockups get worse if I try to load internet explorer which now automatically freezes when I try to load a blank page.

Sure sounds like a malware infection is likely.

Here's my message regarding registry cleaners:

Registry cleaning programs are all snake oil. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.
The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Let me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against the
use of registry cleaners has ever said that they always cause
problems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear from
the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry
cleaner and never had a problem with it.

Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it
the substantial risk of having a problem. And since there is no
benefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad
bargain.

Fall Creators Update for Windows 10 has added Repair and Reset options to Microsoft Edge browser app.

If the default Windows 10 browser, Microsoft Edge isn’t working properly, you can now repair or reset it from the Settings app to make it work again, here is how that can be done.

Fix Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 10 opens and Closes immediately, doesn’t stays

Repair or reset Microsoft Edge

1. Click on Start, open Settings

2. Click on Apps > Apps & features, scroll down and click on Microsoft Edge to select (you can also search for Edge to show on your screen)

3. Click Advanced Options, click Repair.

4. Open Edge and browse some sites to see how it works. If repairing Edge hasn’t helped, click ‘Reset’ button, this will remove Edge’s browsing history, cookies and settings, but your favorites will be kept.

  • Set Edge to Always Clear browsing data when you Close the browser
  • How to Export Edge favorites to an HTML file?
  • How to disable Edge Browser Tab Previews?
